Spanish Immersion Program at Heights

In 2009, Madison Heights Elementary School began offering a foreign language as part of the school’s regular curriculum.

Program Framework

There are no additional costs associated with the foreign language program. Madison Heights is open to all students, including those who live outside the district boundaries.

For the 2014-2015 school year, all kindergarten, first, second, and third graders will participate in the Spanish immersion program. These students will also be exposed to Spanish during their Science, Social Studies, and Language Arts classes. The immersion program will expand to the remaining grade levels in future years.

Preschool and fourth grade students attend Spanish class three times in each six day schedule, or, approximately every other day. The curriculum covers grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing, and informal conversation.

After-School Program

Heights students have the opportunity to extend their foreign language learning by participating in an after-school program. Rosetta Stone® is a key component of the after school program. The after school program (Madison Adventure Club) is run by Madison’s Community Education Department and is fee-based. For more information on afterschool opportunities call 602-664-7956.
