Dear Madison Families,
Yesterday, the Madison Elementary School District made the decision to quarantine all students and staff at Madison No.1 Middle School and return No. 1 students and staff to at home online learning as a result of a fourth COVID-19 positive case on campus. The District’s other 7 schools will continue with hybrid learning. Please know this decision was made with great thought as the District continues to monitor COVID-19 data, listen to expert advice from physicians and review updated information from the CDC, County and State. As communicated previously, Madison parents and families need to prepare for the possibility of having to quarantine their children as a result of a classroom or entire school being directly exposed to a COVID-19 positive individual.
What happens if my child is quarantined?
Students will need to quarantine for at least 14 days, cannot be on campus and will return to at home online learning. During the quarantine, the Maintenance Department will take appropriate measures to ensure all areas are thoroughly cleaned. Please refer to the District’s School Opening plan (mitigation plan) for detailed information https://www.madisonaz.org/
What is the process for reporting cases and communicating with families?
The District works closely with the Maricopa County Department of Public Health to report cases and conduct contact tracing. Families will receive notification if there has been a COVID-19 positive case on campus. A general notice will be sent via email and phone, only to the families of students at that specific school, who did not come in direct contact with the COVID-19 positive individual. Families of students who did have direct contact with the individual will receive a notice that they will need to quarantine. If all students and staff need to quarantine due to a rise in cases and/or exposure, the same notice will be sent to all families at that specific school and will include information on the length of the quarantine.
What can I do to help?
The District asks that everyone continue to remain vigilant. Please listen to the experts who ask that we wear masks, maintain the recommended physical distance often and wash our hands frequently. If we are to minimize the need to quarantine classrooms or close schools, this should be done each day, in and out of school.
Where can I find additional information?
On the District website, families can find the most recent updates and information including the District’s COVID-19 data dashboard. www.madisonaz.org/covid-19-
Additional information is available on the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) website at www.cdc.gov.
The safety of our students, staff and families are our top priority. The District does not make these decisions lightly and will always err on the side of caution. Madison will continue to follow the guidance and expertise of local and national health officials to help protect the health of our students, employees and families. Please help us to minimize the need to quarantine and keep everyone safe. Your cooperation and understanding are deeply appreciated.
